Catherine York graduated from New England
Conservatory of Music in 1988 where she studied piano and composition. She is a
three time winner of the Granite State Piano competition, and winner of the New
England Conservatory Honors Piano Competition in 1988. She also has won the
Commonwealth Competition for Young Pianists, and been a semi finalist in the
Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition in 1989. In 1996 she was the
only American in the Fourth International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in the
Netherlands, and in 2005 she and her trio won the Chamber Music Foundation of
New England's International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition for which she
performed at Carnegie Hall. Catherine has performed throughout the US and
Western Europe. As a composer she has written two full length musicals as well
as an oratorio, and worked as Guest Composer at Cornell University Center for
Theatre Arts. She has been Resident Composer and Music Director at the Beck
Center for the Arts in Cleveland, Ohio. Catherine is currently active as a music
director and educator throughout the seacoast area.
