Tim Allen...
Tim
earned his Bachelor of
Music degree from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey, where he
majored in Music Education. There, he studied voice as his principal instrument
under the guidance of Professor James McKeever, exploring vocal technique and
vocal repertoire in the areas of light opera and art songs in several
languages. Vocal pedagogy was also emphasized during this training, studying
techniques for teaching others to meet their vocal goals. While studying piano
as his secondary instrument, Mr. Allen felt fortunate to spend a year focusing
on technique with renowned concert pianist, Dr. Ana Maria Trenchi de Bottazzi.
He continued practicing technique, exploring repertoire, and discovering
teaching methods with the assistance of Lois Hunt of Westminster's piano
department. Westminster Choir College also provided Mr., Allen with what might
be argued to be the finest of choral experiences, training and performing under
the direction of Frauke Haasemann, Allen Crowell and Joseph Flummerfelt,
Flummerfelt being the founder of The New York Choral Artists and an artistic
director for the Spoleto Festival U.S.A. in Charleston, SC. The choirs of
Westminster performed frequently with the New York Philharmonic under Zubin
Meta, and also occasionally with the Paris Symphony Orchestra under Daniel
Barenboim, the National Symphony Orchestra, and the Philadelphia Orchestra to
name a few.
Since returning to Maine, Mr. Allen has been a choral director,
choir accompanist and/or organist at several churches in the southern Maine and
the coastal New Hampshire areas. He may also be recognized for his theater work
in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, where he has performed on stage,
provided musical direction, and/or played piano accompaniment for numerous
productions. Mr. Allen also spends a considerable amount of time trying to help
keep young people involved and learning about musical theater through his
participation in various children's theater projects. He has written and
directed the music for many children's theater productions and has regularly
provided musical assistance, training, and accompaniment for musical theater
classes in the area.
